Electrical Requirements for Adjustable Beds

The time has come that you need to consider an adjustable bed . This decision may have come due to medical concerns in your life that requires the positioning and adjustments necessary for therapeutic relief, or may just be because you just want a way to be able to read, watch TV, or just have a heightened way to relax in bed

To those who have experienced having to sleep in a hospital bed in a hospital setting, considering an adjustable bed for the home can cause the consumer to stereotype the two beds when it comes to the sometimes overwhelming thought of all the wires and cables they saw anchoring the hospital bed to their room. Just the mere thought of the adjustable bed they are considering will end up requiring the same amount of cumbersome wire clutter and cords their hospital counterpart required, heightens anxiety and stress not conducive to their home recovery!

Fortunately, today’s adjustable beds feature efficient systems of motors and electrical components which effectively operate on a standard 110 volt outlet using only a heavy gauge power cord with a three prong plug. The homes power outlet does need to be the three prong grounded variety, however no other special plug or wiring requirement are necessary for normal operation.

Owner’s manuals do point out the fact that the beds must be connected to a power surge device so that in the event of a power outage, when the power is resumed, the initial resulting power surging of voltage to the homes outlets will be regulated by the protector, and accordingly prevent damage to the electrical devices attached to them. Most manufacturers will deny warranty coverage from motor or other electrical components of the bed found to have been damaged due to electrical current overloads. The surge protector is also beneficial to diffuse a sudden spiking of electrical current to a home; i.e. from that of a lightning strike. Today’s modern Surge Protectors have extremely high joule ratings, and are capable of diffusing virtually any related amplitude of electrical current spikes regardless of the source.
