How to Make your own Latex Mattress

For someone who wants the all-natural body contouring sensation of a latex mattress, but who may be limited from purchasing a quality product by budget constraints, the next best thing is do-it-yourself.

The first step in making your own latex mattress is to get a batch of latex foam. Liquid latex can be purchased online from a number of retailers. As with any purchase, research should be done to ensure the retailer is reputable and will deliver a quality product.

Once you have your latex foam material, you will need to create a mold. The mold should be constructed using measurements that represent your desired mattress dimensions. Once the mold has been constructed it needs to be greased so that the latex will not stick as it hardens. When the mold has been constructed, and prepared, it is time to heat the latex in a large pan. Some products may also require that other ingredients be added to create a mixture. Follow the specific instructions that apply to the latex product purchased. Slowly stir the latex as it heats. When the latex has been properly prepared, and heated accordingly, a paste will result that can be poured into the mold.

If the sides and bottom of the mold are not sufficiently greased, the latex could stick and be damaged as it is removed from the mold. Pour the latex into the mold and use the stir stick to evenly distribute it throughout the mold. When the mold has been filled, leave the latex to dry. Ensure that the latex foam is not disturbed until it has had time to completely dry. If the latex is removed before it has had time to dry throughout, it could be distorted, causing the mattress to not function properly.

Once the mattress has been removed from the mold it should be thoroughly cleaned. Cut excess latex from the edges. And the final step is to place your new latex mattress on a sturdy base and enjoy!
