Range of Head and Foot Adjustment Offered in Adjustable Beds

Consumers who are in the market for adjustable beds do so for either recreational comfort purposes such as watching TV or reading in bed, or for medical reasons on the advisement of their Physician that have issued them a prescription for the bed itself. Many times the prescription issues by their Dr.’s will show the required angle of elevation that they are to use when adjusting the bed.
Since the majority of consumers purchasing an adjustable bed do so for the aforementioned reason of medical needs, they have created their beds with elevation and adjustment capabilities that many times exceed their generic hospital bed counter parts.
Adjustable beds can also offer the ability to raise and lower the height of it, just as a hospital bed does, allowing ease of entry and exit into the bed. Caregivers who have to place non-ambulatory patients in and out of the bed especially appreciate this feature. Most of today’s adjustable beds with this feature offer adjustment ranges from 13-27”in height.
The maximum angle of elevation for the head and the foot ends of the bed can vary between manufacturers from between 54 to 70 degrees at the head of the bed, and 32 to 60 degrees at the foot end. Many manufacturers offer memory preset features for the elevation positioning on their models for convenience of use. This can be a significant consideration depending on the extent of the medical concern and the amount of actual elevation needed for optimal relief, i.e. those suffering with infirmities such as Edema, COPD, Reflux, and Asthma. This consideration is of course, not just limited to a medical need.
Many individuals not purchasing anadjustable bed for medical reasons do so for recreational and comfort uses such as watching TV, and reading in bed. In this instance, having a greater angle of head and foot elevation becomes just as important as needing the maximum elevation for medical purposes.
